10/20/2023 0 Comments Complete salt and sanctuary mapIntermediate combat is when you realize that there are combo attacks that have different poise damage values which you can use to reliably stagger enemies when they are about to attack you instead of stopping your attack and blocking. At its most basic level, you hold your shield up and walk forward, throwing out light attacks when you think it's safe, or you roll attacks instead of blocking. The combat has variety, it's just not laid out up front what you can actually do so a lot of people never figure it out. The visibility issue seems like a problem with your graphics settings, not the graphic design of the game. 4 hours into the game, and i wasn't having fun, and as a great man once said. Maybe i didn't try hard enough, or needed to git gud, but honestly, the game began to feel like a chore at a point when the boss fights were just block dodge and light attack, and i was dying more to platforming sections and random mini boss creatures ( That friggin abomination thing) than i was dying to bosses, Some of which were an absolute joke. The no tutorial and explanation system taken from Souls games have back-fired as well, since way too much has been mashed together. In Salt and Sanctuary every next screen just feels like a place i've visited before, with palettes being re-used and enemies repeating. Blind exploration in Dark Souls is fun because of the rich and interesting world, which is beautifully crafted and you simply want more. You have backtracking and blind exploration coupled with difficult platforming sections and sudden traps. The last and the most problematic issue to me in the game is the Castlevania roots it has. In a 3D environment you can place yourself in a beneficial position by rolling, while its a simple roll behind enemy mechanic here, which apparently is the end-all for every single enemy or boss, other than one attack of a specific boss. Very rarely do i find myself using a Heavy attack and most of the battles are simply swapping in between Blocks and Light attacks, while rolling, which is not as effective as it is in Dark souls. In Salt and Sanctuary, the combat feels so linear and boring. While the dark souls combat system was extremely simple, the game being 3D really added another edge of difficulty to it. In this case, the dark, instead of making me take my steps slow and be careful, just irritates me instead, since it is there around 75% of the time. Many a times, i find myself almost missing enemies, obstacles or platforms just because they blur together with the environment. While the caverns are supposed to be dark and some places do have a lack of light, the extreme amount of blurry environment makes the game so difficult to see. ![]() The first and most obvious problem i have with the game is the visibility. ![]() I'm a old school Dark Souls fan, having played Demon Souls, Dark Soul I and II ( Don't have the consoles for the other two) and Castlevania games were my childhood, So i was definitely very interested in Salt and Sanctuary, expecting a wonderful union of the two genres.
